Lookit, I got podficced! Twice!

http://podfic-project.livejournal.com/11503.html

Both [livejournal.com profile] cantarina1 and [livejournal.com profile] nickelmountain did lovely readings of my fic!

Also, that thing that everyone's been doing, because why not:

Give me a pairing and I will tell you:

1. What they most commonly do during sex
2. Who has prettier hair
3. What they argue about most often
4. Who'd cope best if the other one died
5. The happiest plausible happily-ever-after I can think of for them.

I've been meaning for a while to do a post with some recs and things... I think I've probably forgotten half the stuff I was going to put on it, but never mind, here we go:

[livejournal.com profile] such_heights is running a Female Character Trope Fest, looks like it's going to be awesome, some great prompts for Star Trek and others.

Found this awesome women of Doctor Who vid.

[livejournal.com profile] sophia_gratia wrote me heart-breaking, gorgeous Kira and the O'Briens family(ish) fic which everyone should read.

I still (eventually) plan to do a proper con report for [livejournal.com profile] vidukon, but in the meantime, a few of my favourites included this Jurassic Park vid which is hilarious even if you don't really care about Jurassic Park or about vids, this adorable SJA vid focusing on Mr Smith and K9, a totally cute Nyssa/Tegan vid, a brilliant Cybill/Maryann vid that single-handedly made me desperate to watch the show, and the most happy-making Billy Elliot vid in the world.

Also, someone crossed over Temeraire and Pride and Prejudice. Whee, dragons and frocks!

And this Sarah Jane and Gita fic is fun and sweet.

Ooh, and I almost forgot, my awesome new mood theme is by [livejournal.com profile] ubiquitousmixie!

Just a brief note to say that there's a new [livejournal.com profile] ds9_rewatch comm, starting very soon, should be heaps of fun!

Folk who've seen it before, wouldn't it be great to see it again? Folk who haven't or have only seen a bit, this is your chance to jump on board and enjoy maximum shared squee-age! ([livejournal.com profile] liastra2, [livejournal.com profile] silly_cleo, I'm especially looking at you guys... actually [livejournal.com profile] ladyvivien I think it'd be right up your street too...)

Anyone who hasn't seen it - imagine something that's good like Battlestar Galactica, but like a billion times funnier and with less (although still some) angst.

I'm excited! Yay!

1. We've been watching some Next Gen lately. Arsenal of Freedom is, in its cheesy way, kind of awesome. Seriously, Geordi gets to be in charge of the ship and kick ass and be a great leader - when does he ever get that kind of story again? And Deanna's pretty cool in it too. Also we watched Family - another excellent cheese-fest. Oh, Worf's parents! I ♥ them so.
2. The [livejournal.com profile] where_no_woman New Year ficathon got revealed! I got written Awesome Guinan/Pulaski (so excited!!), and I wrote Guinan back-story, which people seemed to quite like, yay! Lots of other great stories in the exchange too.
3. If you like graphic novels, fairytales, things that pass the Bechdel Test, or all three, then you need to read Castle Waiting. Like, immediately. Heck, you need to even if you don't like those things. I don't care.
4. There is Malory Towers kinky teacher femslash in the world. Just thought y'all should know. (Also, femslash people - you should read this DS9 fic for the title alone).
5. Just because I haven't mentioned [livejournal.com profile] vidukon yet this post - [livejournal.com profile] carawj and [livejournal.com profile] tellitslant are VJing a femslash vidshow! So if you know of any awesome femslash vids, in any fandom, please do mention them here.
cosmic_llin: (HAPPY Deanna squee)
Fandom stocking got revealed last night, and I've been a very lucky girl this year. ;)

The marvellous [livejournal.com profile] carawj wrote a TNG/Downton Abbey crossover with Troi/Pulaski, and dressing up, and saving people, and cuteness and awesome!!! It's so brilliant I hyperventilated a bit.

I've also been very spoiled on the Kira/Dax front - [livejournal.com profile] sophia_gratia wrote me a gorgeous, super-hot ficlet, [livejournal.com profile] shinyjenni made the most ridiculously win picspam, and [livejournal.com profile] eponymous_rose wrote me an absolutely beautiful fic.

[livejournal.com profile] medie gave me fantastic icons of awesome Trek ladies and a wonderful Miranda Jones/Number One ficlet, which, best idea for a pairing ever!

[livejournal.com profile] paranoidangel42 wrote me Sarah Jane and Ace being completely awesome together, and it is adorable!

Also, lots of people left me lovely greetings, including a picture of Mel from [livejournal.com profile] morgeil!

As for what I did, the ficlets I wrote are HERE and I'm about to post the vid I made for [livejournal.com profile] carawj.
cosmic_llin: (INTERESTED Worked on nine levels)
So, I'm not really in the mood to do my usual Christmas wishlist post and stuff, so instead I decided I would make a list of some of the fics and vids that I've really enjoyed this year. With the caveat that most of them will probably be quite recent because the beginning of the year is hard to remember. And there are probably plenty I've forgotten that ruled. Anyways:

Fic:

Like an Elephant, by biichan - Mel and Donna (one of my favourite unusual DW pairings) being awesome.
A very short exploration of phone (actually telegraphic) sex and orgasm control, in which this title is several times longer than the fic itself, by Skud - I don't even read Sherlock Holmes fic, but this made me LOL so hard...
Terra Firma, by carawj - Best Naomi Wildman fic ever. And I'm not even saying that just because my girlfriend wrote it. Although she did.
An extract from "The Witch’s Guide to Pregnancy, Birth, and Baby Care", by Alarica Rosier. Chapter Nine: What if my Baby is a Squib?, by Nineveh_uk - This is very sad and disturbing. Also it was originally written in 2007 but it as posted to AO3 recently so it totally counts.
Reflections, by sophiegrace - The only thing better than one Kira is two Kiras. Especially if one of them is evil. Muhahaha. Rated Mature, click at your own risk!
A Memory of Stars, by eponymous_rose - Gorgeous little moment between Kira and Jake.
Modern Love, by Penknife - OK, so this is from last year but I discovered it this year. I don't usually read Discworld fic at all, but this is about LGBT dwarves, and it's AWESOME.

Vids:

Dance of Joy, by Talumin - Multifandom, people dancing. It makes me go :D
I Can't Hear the Music, by Settiai - Awesome Kai Winn character study
Say, by sarasdano - Another DS9 vid, a wonderful team one
I Wish I Was James Bond, by kuwdora - I know everyone has recced the crap out of this recently, but it's JUST. SO. COOL. Julian Bashir wants to be James Bond. Just watch it, y'all.

Feel free to rec me things if it looks like there's great stuff I've missed!
cosmic_llin: (HAPPY Deanna squee)
I'm so pleased with how the Day of not-Classic Trek went! Loads of people took part and some really awesome stuff got posted.

If anyone hasn't yet checked out [livejournal.com profile] eponymous_rose's Introduction to DS9, you totally should. Even if you're familiar with the show already, it's a really fun read. And if you're not familiar with the show, you should get familiar with it, particularly if you're looking for something to fill a BSG-shaped hole in your life, but with slightly more dressing up and wacky hijinks.

Also terrific is this story about Naomi Wildman by [livejournal.com profile] carawj. I'm not even just saying that because she bought me flowers last week, it's genuinely awesome. ;)

There were some great icons posted, too, like these ones and these ones and these ones. Not to mention essays, femslash for Enterprise and Deep Space Nine, a drabble, a picspam and a clipspam.

And that's not even all of the cool stuff that got posted! If anyone missed it and still wants to go back and see, the post is here.

Just under two weeks remaining until the Day of not-Classic Trek!

What is the Day of not-Classic Trek?

It's a day honouring the Star Trek series of the 80s, 90s and 00s, ie The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise. It was inspired by the awesome Day of Classic in Doctor Who fandom, hence the name.

What with the release of Star Trek XI recently, everyone's been getting really excited about AOS and TOS, and while that's awesome, it's also nice to have an occasion to celebrate the other incarnations of our show that may not have been getting quite so much attention recently.

What's the aim?

The aim is for the edition of the Star Trek fandom newsletter, [livejournal.com profile] trek_news, on Sunday June 20th to be full of exciting things relating to all the incarnations of Star Trek, but especially stuff for TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT.

What should I post?

Whatever you like, so long as it's related to TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT! You can post fic, or graphics, or a vid, or discussion, or meta, or poetry, or art. It could be a picspam, a rec, an essay, a mood theme, a friending meme, a question or an idea. It could be a novel-length masterpiece, or a sketch that took you five minutes.

When should I post it?

Anytime from after the Saturday 19th edition of [livejournal.com profile] trek_news goes up, until the Sunday 20th edition goes up, which should be late evening, MST. That's early on Monday morning for folks in the UK, and late Monday afternoon for people in Oz. I will also make a post on the day to fire the metaphorical starter pistol.

Where should I post?

Wherever you would normally post it. If it's in a Star Trek community where [livejournal.com profile] trek_news will pick it up, great! If you're posting it to your journal, or somewhere else, don't forget to leave a comment with a link on Saturday's edition of [livejournal.com profile] trek_news, with the Subject Line Link for Trek_News so that they know you've posted.

It might also be useful to take a look at the [livejournal.com profile] trek_news Posting Guidelines and FAQ, to make it as easy as possible for the editors to find your post and put it in the right category.

I have another question not covered here!

Ask it in the comments and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Anything else?

Tell your friends! The more people do this, the more exciting it will be, so spread the word if you can. And have a good time!
cosmic_llin: (Bonnie and Colin)
So, [livejournal.com profile] carawj and I started a community all about Bonnie Langford:

[livejournal.com profile] bonnielangford

Because she's a terrific performer and lovely and awesome and there wasn't one already!
So please, if you're a fan of Bonnie for her singing, acting, dancing or skating, join up! It'll be fun, I promise!
