~looks at list~
~scratches head~

Ay de mi. I don't recognise about 75 per cent of these! Looks like I dropped out of the loop at exactly the right time :-)

Most of what I remember about the early 80s was that everything went to crap, especially the music. There were some delicious films - some of which are still among my lifetime faves ("Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the Earth's gravitational pull?", or "Write yourself out of this, Joan Wilder...", or for that matter, "It's not like that at all. He's my brother.") - but mostly it was a lost decade, a decade of pointless wallowing and ever-tightening recession and...oh wait, that ws the 90s :P :P :P

Weight has nothing to do with it. :P
And that second one brings back memories - I was allowed to stay up late to see the end of Romancing the Stone, and it was a huge occasion! Sort of a rite of passage.
I suppose I can afford to look back on the eighties through rose tinted glasses, since it was the decade of my childhood which, although it wasn't idyllic, was pretty good fun sometimes. Plus this means I don't remember much of it in terms of politics etc.

I remember first going to see Romancing the Stone one afternoon when it was in first-run. My then b/f and I went to the big, old-fashioned cinema in Paignton. It was deep autumn, and what with Paignton being a summer town, we were the only customers there - but the snacks girl with her (equally old-fashioned) tray of popcorn and drinks slung around her neck was still there to serve us! Not the sort of thing one forgets in a hurry - that, and the fact that we were howling with laughter from the moment "Jack T. Colton" first appeared, because he looked and acted sooo much like my bro Simon :-)
