December seems to be going slower than usual. Think it's because this is the first time in six years that I haven't been doing the Sarah Jane advent calendar. It's kind of sad because I really enjoyed doing it and I always got some lovely feedback, but I can't say I miss having to post something every single day. It's making December more relaxing, not constantly trying to work out what's ready to post and when I can get to a computer.

I finally made a proper start on my Yuletide story and I'm liking the direction it's going. At the moment it's coming in a little short, which is always my problem, but I'm having fun with it and I'm pretty sure I'll figure it out in time.

I'm nearly finished with my The Dark is Rising reread. Halfway through Silver on the Tree. It's been a few years since my last all-the-way-through reread and this time around I'm struck by how great Jane is. Not that I didn't always like her but for some reason now I'm noticing more how perceptive she is and how thoughtful. It pleases me how her act of kindness in Greenwitch is basically the most important thing in the book, more important than anything the more powerful characters try to do.

Off to see The Hobbit tonight. I'm quite looking forward to it but I'm nowhere near as excited as most of the other people I know!

Aw, well good luck with Yuletide! :-)

And it's been years since I read The Dark Is Rising sequence (in fact, I think I only read it the once - I was bothered by some aspects of it at the time), but Jane was always my favourite character and I do recall that impression of her.

Well, enjoy the film. (Richard Armitage will be shorter than Sylvester McCoy! That must be entertaining, surely??)

Also, have friended you at LJ also, if you don't mind. The other friending meme I did accidentally expanded my flist quite hugely, so I keep forgetting to look at my Dreamwidth reading page just at the moment (although I don't mind where people comment, of course.)

I haven't read them since I was a teenager, and since I know how excellent Susan Cooper usually is, that's why I mean to sometime. It's just I didn't like the way Will was special and the others were ordinary - I read about the others first and I resented him a lot on their behalf. Which strikes me as a very young response and that I'd probably appreciate them a lot more now. I did like them, anyway, though.

Also the copy I was reading was an omnibus version from the library and it fell apart in the middle, so I had anxiety to deal with as well. (The librarian just informed me that perfect binding was in fact v imperfect when I returned it.)

So, as I said, I should reread them sometime - when I have more brain!

SHE IS AWESOME! I totally agree - what she does in Greenwitch is so, so important, and she basically rocks.

Posting daily is tough. Which is why I'm LOVING LJ's new post date feature. I'm using it for my advent drabbles and it is PERFECT. I usually try to write them in one go (or at least in batches anyway) so I just post a bunch at a time and then I dont' have to worry about it for the rest of the time, they just go up at the date and time I selected. So like I did Dec 1-11 in one batch and the other day I did Dec 12-17. Then I ran out of prompts but I'm hoping I'll get a few more and then I'll write those and post them as the next batch. I'm so glad LJ has this feature. In past years I'd end up missing a day or two due to busyness and I'd have to post a bunch in a row. It's great and something to keep in mind for future daily challenges!

Yeah, it's really cool that they've introduced that feature, so useful! Hope you're having fun with your drabbles, I've enjoyed the ones from fandoms I know! :)

It's a great feature. I'll definitely be using it in future for chaptered fic and the like. This has been like a good practise run. I am having fun with them. I'm out of prompts after Dec 17 though so do feel free to toss me a prompt from something we crossover on. Cara too! I'd love to write something for you guys! (SJA would be fine even though it's not listed)
