December Musings
Dec. 13th, 2012 03:48 pmDecember seems to be going slower than usual. Think it's because this is the first time in six years that I haven't been doing the Sarah Jane advent calendar. It's kind of sad because I really enjoyed doing it and I always got some lovely feedback, but I can't say I miss having to post something every single day. It's making December more relaxing, not constantly trying to work out what's ready to post and when I can get to a computer.
I finally made a proper start on my Yuletide story and I'm liking the direction it's going. At the moment it's coming in a little short, which is always my problem, but I'm having fun with it and I'm pretty sure I'll figure it out in time.
I'm nearly finished with my The Dark is Rising reread. Halfway through Silver on the Tree. It's been a few years since my last all-the-way-through reread and this time around I'm struck by how great Jane is. Not that I didn't always like her but for some reason now I'm noticing more how perceptive she is and how thoughtful. It pleases me how her act of kindness in Greenwitch is basically the most important thing in the book, more important than anything the more powerful characters try to do.
Off to see The Hobbit tonight. I'm quite looking forward to it but I'm nowhere near as excited as most of the other people I know!

Date: 2012-12-13 05:38 pm (UTC)And it's been years since I read The Dark Is Rising sequence (in fact, I think I only read it the once - I was bothered by some aspects of it at the time), but Jane was always my favourite character and I do recall that impression of her.
Well, enjoy the film. (Richard Armitage will be shorter than Sylvester McCoy! That must be entertaining, surely??)
Also, have friended you at LJ also, if you don't mind. The other friending meme I did accidentally expanded my flist quite hugely, so I keep forgetting to look at my Dreamwidth reading page just at the moment (although I don't mind where people comment, of course.)

Date: 2012-12-14 10:21 pm (UTC)Oh, what were you bothered by, out of interest? I may be a bit blind to their flaws because they're a favourite childhood read...
No problem, will friend you back there too! I'm sort of doing both at the moment anyway...

Date: 2012-12-15 05:21 pm (UTC)Also the copy I was reading was an omnibus version from the library and it fell apart in the middle, so I had anxiety to deal with as well. (The librarian just informed me that perfect binding was in fact v imperfect when I returned it.)
So, as I said, I should reread them sometime - when I have more brain!

Date: 2012-12-14 03:54 am (UTC)SHE IS AWESOME! I totally agree - what she does in Greenwitch is so, so important, and she basically rocks.
