1 - Which Star Trek series is your favorite?
I have actually spent quite long pieces of my life trying to figure this out. It's tricky. Y'see, I was raised on Next Gen, I don't remember a time when I wasn't watching it - the characters were like friends to me. I played that I was Deanna and my brother was Picard when I was little. But then, Voyager was the first Trek series that I watched from the very beginning and followed in a linear way, and it thrilled me in ways that I later realised were a lot to do with my *ahem* special feelings for Captain Janeway. But then, I think it's fairly indisputable that DS9 is the best in terms of being really excellent storytelling. So. Um. One of those...?
2 - Who is your favorite character?
Deanna Troi. Or Kathryn Janeway. Or Kira Nerys. Or... I don't know, so many! As already alluded to, Janeway played an important role in my adolescence, but Deanna was my favourite from when I was tiny. And Kira is just... Kira.
3 - Who is your least favorite character?
I never warmed to anyone on Enterprise particularly.
4 - What was the first Star Trek series you watched?
Next Gen.
5 - What was the first episode/movie you watched?
Goodness knows.
6 - Your favorite canon pairing? (Canon being the series and the movies, including the reboot.)
Imzadi Forever!!!! I used to be obsessed with Riker/Troi and Janeway/Chakotay to a similar degree, although I wrote reams of fic for the latter and just enjoyed watching/reading the former, but as the years have gone by I've realised that J/C is actually a terrible idea, while Will and Deanna are perfect together. But in a completely different way than I thought they were ten years ago. I also adore the canon pairings of DS9 in general.
7 - Your favorite non-canon pairing?
Whew, so many. I will ship most people with most other people, especially femslash, but I particularly love Deanna/Anyone (Pulaski, Crusher, any character played by Suzie Plakson, most women who have ever been on Star Trek and a few who haven't), Kira/Dax, Janeway/Torres, Kira/O'Briens, in fact any number of poly arrangements on DS9, Janeway/Kes, Lwaxana/Anyone, Nechayev/Anyone, Kira/Cretak...
8 - Your favorite actor/actress? (Not the same as character.)
Why did I decide to do this? These questions are too hard! Not answering. All of them!
9 - What's your favorite episode?
Ahaha, it's ridiculous to even ask such a question, don't you know how many there are?! For sheer gut-wrenching, cry-making epicness, What You Leave Behind doesn't have many competitors, although that's just one aspect of how wonderful Star Trek can be.
10 - What's your favorite species? (Humans are a species as well.)
Hmm. I'm really interested in Betazed as a culture, the way that they've evolved for honestly and frankness. I'm interested in what the 'Fifth House' actually is, what sort of social structure they have, what oskoids are, whether the olden-days Betazoid women could feel the emotions of those animals that lived in their wigs...
11 - What's your least favorite species? (See question 9 about species.)
I think all the cultures on Star Trek are pretty interesting. The Pakleds were a bit of a misstep.
12 - What's your favorite funny moment?
(I'm sorry, not sure who made this gif! If it was you, tell me so I can credit!)
13 - What's your favorite dramatic moment?
Yet another impossible question.
14 - What's your favorite Star Trek quote?
Too many! I like 'weird is part of the job'.
15 - How did you get into Star Trek?
Osmosis from early childhood. Star Trek was basically my third parent.
16 - Are you involved with Star Trek fandom?
Yes, very much so. I started out on the J/C Story Index and the JetC groups, spent a few years cheating on Trek with Harry Potter and Doctor Who, and then came back older, wiser, and ready to multiship all the ladies at
17 - Have you read any of the books? If so, which ones?
Heaps of them! I devoured the cheapy Voyager tie-ins when I was a kid, and anything with Troi on the cover. I quite like some of the TNG continuation novels, and I'm just finishing the DS9 relaunch, which I liked up to Unity and after that not so much. I adored the post-Voyager novels when they came out but I suspect that I might not any more. Also, the Imzadi novel used to be my bible, but I reread it lately and... um. Ew.
18 - If you could be any species in the Star Trek universe, what would you be?
Betazoid, I guess. Or human, since they always seem to get to do the most stuff. ;)
19 - How did the Star Trek reboot affect you?
I quite enjoyed it, it was fun. Would like to see more ladies in the next one, though.
20 - Of the minor characters (one shots, not the recurring ones) who’s your favorite?
Hard to pick just one... I think Natima Lang is interesting in spite of the slightly ropey episode she appeared in... Lupaza, of course... I really like Sarina.
21 - Which Star Trek food would you want to try at least once?
I want that cocktail that turns a different colour when you ping it!
22 - Which Star Trek world would you want to visit at least once?
Haha, so many of them. Betazed, Bajor... Risa...
23 - Is there anything you'd want to change about Star Trek? Why?
Echoing SG, but, queers! Please. In this universe, thank you very much.
24 - Is there anything about Star Trek that has disappointed you?
The so-near-and-yet-so-far-ness of some of their attempts at being inclusive/progressive. Apparently Jonathan Frakes really wanted Soren in The Outcast to be male. Not sure if he wanted a male actor to play female-identifying Soren, or have Soren be male, or what combination of things, but that alone would have helped that miserable episode.
25 - How has Star Trek changed you?
Star Trek basically raised me. It taught me a lot about accepting people who are different, and being curious, and being careful when you meddle in other people's business. It helped me realise I might not be 100% completely straight. It helped form some of my first ridiculous ideas about love and relationships. It helped me to meet some really awesome people who are important to me and make my life awesomer. It's been my comfort blanket, grief counselor and companion. Star Trek is a big part of me.
26 - Lots of Star Trek Parodies out there. Which do you dig?
Galaxy Quest! It's just so affectionate, both to the show and the fans.
27 - What would you cross over with Star Trek?
Anything and everything. I love making Trek characters play at other shows in the holodeck.
28 - If you could change one thing about Star Trek, what would it be?
See my response last time!
29 - If you could tell Gene Roddenberry one thing, Star Trek related or not, what would it be?
That thing you made - it's still going on, people still love it, it's never going to stop.
i can't stop laughing about this meme's declaration of the speciesness of humans
Date: 2012-02-09 03:19 am (UTC)Your answer to {12} is perfect. (And I think the .gif is by the gal who runs fuckyeahtng on Tumblr, but I'm not sure.)
And I completely forgot about Natima Lang! And your revisions of your opinions on J/C and the Imzadi novel cracked me up. And the answer to 29 is also perfect.
Also older, wiser, and ready to multiship all the ladies at where_no_woman. ♥
