cosmic_llin: (WRITING first draft)
[personal profile] cosmic_llin
So, [livejournal.com profile] mini_hannah, [livejournal.com profile] silly_cleo, [livejournal.com profile] carawj and I set ourselves a challenge to post more regularly, so here's my stab at it. Although I actually posted fairly recently. ;)

* Second draft of the novel is coming along bit by bit. I was stuck on a bit that didn't work because of things I changed late in the first draft, and it took me forever to figure out that the whole problem could be solved by the scene in question taking place indoors instead of outdoors. *headdesk* So now that's sorted out - onward!
* Also working on a new project, a website for kids... still in the planning stages, watch this space...
* Bit frustrated that I suddenly have a lot less writing time, since I'm back working in the office, which means three hours commuting every day. On the flipside that's three hours reading time, but it's not the sort of commute where writing is really possible, or I could alternate. I'm really not enjoying being in the office. Working from home really suited me and going in every day stresses me out and makes me unhappy. I'm going to try to find something else.
* But yes, silver linings etc, I achieved my aim of reading a lot in September partly due to my stupid long commute. It was only ten books, but three of them were the insanely-long Tawny Man Trilogy, which I quite enjoyed but which annoyed me in places. Before that I read some factual books, mostly feminism-related, some good short stories and a couple of new-ish fantasy things I'd been meaning to get around to. Next up are a couple of quick little Star Trek tie-ins before Snuff comes out this week.
* [livejournal.com profile] silly_cleo and I joined a choir! It's lots of fun so far and I really have missed singing.
* We went to the Entertainment Media Show (Collectormania) the other weekend, which was a thoroughly disappointing experience, but at least I got my picture taken with some guy dressed as a Klingon? So it could have been worse.
* Spent yesterday having Yom Kippur dinner at [livejournal.com profile] carawj's grandparents' house. I've been there a few times before but this was the first time I've been invited to Jewish Stuff, so I was very pleased (and nervous) to go. I had a nice time and now we have lots of leftovers, hurrah!
* Life shows no signs of getting any less busy - theatre trips, stays with my dad, visits from various friends and family, outings, innings... lots of fannish things coming up over Christmas... not going NaNoWriMo this year so I'm sort of looking forward to a bit of a quieter November than usual...

Will you be updating the Sarah Jane Wardrobe Appreciation Society website with series 5 synopses?

Also *hugs*

SECOND DRAFT YAYYAYYAYYAY!

Meanwhile I HAZ MUSE. I got da jazz! my fu is finally back! I've been joyfully struggling with a brainfrak of a scene for two days, making definite progress and not minding the whole argh-struggle-frustration thing because I HAZ FU BACK.

Health front is less wonderful, but still ate'nt dead.

I got invited to a Jewish Stuff thing once, waaaay back in school. It may have been the same one. Did you have the thing with the salt and the egg and the empty chair?

The thing with the salt etc is Passover, I think, but I'll presumably be invited to that next time... this one was the one where everyone eats cold fried fish except I'm vegetarian so Cara's grandma has to get in lots of cheese especially...

I take three hours of public transport per day as well! Though for me it's because I chose to attend the university situated as far as possible from my house without requiring a move interstate. I used to complain about it, but these days I too treasure the reading time. Even when people read over my shoulder.

Haha, yes, the reading time is definitely the best bit. I think I wouldn't mind so much if my transport was more reliable and less likely to be filled with rude people, but eh, can't have it all! ;)

I'm going to be hanging around Girl Reporter for the next few weeks (for obvious reasons), so I thought I'd stop by and say hi to you here. Glad to know that things are mostly going well with you, except for that 3 hour commute--ouch! Well, at least you're getting a lot of reading in. Have you ever read the essay collection _Chicks Dig Timelords_? I read that over the summer, and it had some interesting feminist views on fandom, among other things.

Things are more or less the same as before in my life, except that my best friend has been fighting multiple myeloma (a bone marrow/blood cancer) for the past year. She's been on various types of chemo almost non-stop, and it's really hard to see her go through that. At first I didn't think I'd be able to watch the new SJA eppies, because I thought they'd remind me of Elisabeth Sladen's cancer (and, by extension, my friend's cancer) and make me too sad. But I finally watched last night (got caught up on everything that's available so far), and it turns out I was really glad that I did. Would love to hear your takes on these eps, if you're feeling up to it.

Take care!

Hey! Nice to hear from you! I'm sorry to hear about your friend, that must be really difficult. But glad it hasn't spoiled your enjoyment of SJA - I'm enjoying the season so far too. I thought it would be weird, but it was ok once I was watching. Sad that this week is the last one, though.
