There is stuff going on in real life now, but nothing that feels like it wants blogging about, so instead here's a list of songs I've been listening to lately:

A Widow's Toast - Neko Case - This is just quiet and nice and piano-y and very short and lovely.
Y Dwr Yn Y Mor - Melys - This came from a nostalgic Spotify search of the Welsh indie rock I used to listen to as a teenager. I used to be very into Melys, and this is still a cool song.
Circle Dance - Bonnie Raitt - I've been listening to quite a lot of bluesy/country-ish ladies, and this is one of my favourites. Sad and pretty.
Flying Into The Flame - Suzie Plakson - I find this a little on the melodramatic side, but she has a really lovely voice.
Galileo - Indigo Girls - I've played this so much I'm surprised [livejournal.com profile] carawj can still stand to hear it, but then she did live with [livejournal.com profile] silly_cleo for several years, so my music-on-repeat habits can't hold a candle, really...
Gay Pirates - Cosmo Jarvis - Does what it says on the tin. Sweet story. Plus the chorus is very catchy.
Mowgli's Road - Marina and the Diamonds - This is one of the most bizarrely catchy songs ever. The video is even weirder. I found the album patchy, but I really liked this song and a few others.
Red Orange Green - Emma Pollock - After getting really into Scots-Canadian supergroup The Burns Unit last year, I looked up some of the members, and Emma Pollock is one of my favourites. I like the clock ticking all the way through this.
Rho Gan Lawen - Sonia Jones - Welsh 90s Christian rock? Don't mind if I do...
The Pill - Loretta Lynn - This is the most awesome song about contraception you'll hear this week.
The Princess Who Saved Herself - Jonathan Coulton - The title tells you more or less what to expect. Fun song!
Left and Leaving - The Weakerthans - This is sad and haunting and makes me feel nostalgic.
Birdhouse in your Soul - Ellen Greene, Kristin Chenoweth - Apologies to the original version, this is awesome!
Boom Boom Ba - Metisse - I imagine quite a few people on my flist are familiar with the Xena vid set to this, but weirdly I'd never thought to actually listen to the song by itself before... it's really quite beautiful.
She Bop - Cyndi Lauper - I was looking for songs about masturbation (as you do) and this one came up. I love Cyndi Lauper, all of her songs are so fun, but this one is epically eighties-sounding.
Ne Pokidai Menya - Sergei Trofimov - Part of my resolution to listen to more Russian music, this is from the growly-poetic-angst genre known as chanson, and it's less growly and more melodic than most.

Oh, the one thing that I should say is that I'm off to Russia again for a month or so on June 15th! At least, if they send my visa back... it was supposed to come back by today but it hasn't, although I hear they're very busy at the moment... so fingers crossed...

I'm not sure I'll even get a chance to be in Moscow - I'm getting a minibus straight from Domodedovo to Kaluga and then after that I'm in St Petersburg, not sure I'll be in Moscow at all I'm afraid!

Oh, my gosh, 'Widow's Toast.' I can listen to that song over and over and over and never tire of it. The best of Ms. Case's talent: combining melodic elements, rhythmic ones, and lyrical ones for maximum effect. A nearly perfect song.

'Galileo' has been with me for fifteen years, now. And it ain't goin' anywhere.

Also, LOL, I have never listened to She Bop carefully at all. It didn't even begin to occur to me that it was about masturbation. Amazing.

And now I am going to go and look up the songs here that I don't know. And laugh at you a little bit about Suzie Plakson. But in the most affectionate manner possible. (((you)))

Ahahaha, it's so obvious once you know. I'm a little bit in love with Cyndi Lauper.

Aaaawwwww, she just has a really pretty voice and she sounds like she really means it! It's sweet!
