Stuff in my head:

* Happy birthday Els! Hope you had a wicked time.
* Urgh I feel so ill. I've been trying to shake off this horrible cold all week, and I just feel so drained and limp and fuzzy. Had a funny turn on the tube this morning, the Piccadilly line is very airless. I know that it's my own fault really for working too much and eating rubbish at stupid times of day. Day off tomorrow. I think I shall have a long lie-in and just lounge around the house. Maybe tidy my room a bit. I rearranged it and it looks good, but very messy.
* On Wednesday I interviewed for an amazing job. I should hear this week. Please cross your fingers for me if you have a second to!
* Today was the Elisabeth Sladen, Tommy Knight, Daniel Anthony signing at Borders! It was a terrific day. I did badges! There was food! I gave The Sladen a letter that some of my Kitezh kids wrote her. Other cool stuff. Possibly longer post later.
* Really missing Kitezh lately, actually. Feeling a bit emotional about it.
* I am sort of worried about Christmas. Fear it will be all forced jollity and people going off to cry in corners. Also, I have no money for presents.
* I don't like having two jobs. It makes me feel like I'm always rushing. Again... hope I get this one I interviewed for t'other day. It's in Ealing! Which, shockingly, looks nothing like TV-Ealing, since TV-Ealing is actually Cardiff...
* Oh self, stop moaning! You live in London, you have your own (small) steady(ish) income, your friends are great, the SJA is on every Monday, and your hair is cool. Blessings. Count 'em.
* In fact, self, why are you still up? It's half three! Being crazy-wired for no apparent reason is not a good enough excuse.
* Love and hugs to Penguins and associated persons!

Wishing you the very best of luck for the new job! How exciting! :D

I hope you feel better soon. Dealing with sickness on top of two jobs stinks. *hug*

When you're feeling better, I'd love to hear mroe about meeting Elizabeth Sladen! What a cool opportunity! What is Kitezh, BTW?

(((((((((Llin)))))))))!!!!!! I really hope things turn around for you soon and you can settle in and truly enjoy the holidays. I'm glad to hear you're still able to see what blessings you have (and that your hair is, apparently, cool). You need to talk at any point, I'm here.

Kitezh is the community that I lived in while I was in Russia. It was a really awesome place, I miss it so much!
Elisabeth Sladen was super lovely to me, it was great!
And ooh, good luck with all your Wildlife Society stuff, that sounds cool!

Hark! I'm very late in answering, because today was another sick-day (boring boring boring grrr arrgh), so here it is 21.30 and I'm just now getting to my LJ :-)

Lots of love and hugs back atcha from Our Gang!

Just a thought - why 'forced jollity'? Anything could happen in the coming months. An extinction event from a stray comet or supervolcano...a universal cure for all cancers...a war...or most likely, a continuation of Things As They Are For Now. All the more reason to genuinely celebrate. Maybe you and E should put together some cheerleader costumes and put on a 'rally' for your Mum, since she's a fighter. Or make her some sort of statuette, a Lifetime Achievement Award, and present it in a ceremony where she's the GoH. Then there will be snarfles as well as tears...

Kitezh will endure, and you can go back some day (barring extinction events and alien invasions). And the Sladen rocks - I am loving s2 of SJA!

Hope you're feeling good-er than you were!

That's true, and most days I do feel fairly optimistic!

LOL, those are cute ideas! I think Mum might quite like it but my stepdad might find it a bit upsetting. But I'm sure we'll find ways to make it special.

Aargh, I can't believe there's only three episodes to go! What will I do when it stops? Have you seen the latest one yet? I was blown away.
I still miss Chrissie, though, I think she's a very underrated character!

Ooh, another capybara photo! ~saves it to her Hex~ Thankee! The world needs more capybaras :-)

The holiday suggestions were more in the way of making you smile and perhaps inspiring you along those lines, heh.

Ooooo! For some reason we'd got it into our heads that the current two-parter was the end of SJA s2. Yayyayyay for there being another set to go! As for the current one, I LOVE it that they've brought the Trickster back - IMO that's one of the genuinely classy Scary Monsters of modern telly, along with the Gentlemen (Buffy) and the Wraith (SGA). Also, 'Victoria and David Beckham' ahahahahaha! And isn't Rani excellent? - she's well on her way to becoming Sarah Jane Smith: the next Generation when she grows up. As for missing Chrissie, I detested Chrissie right up to the moment when I, um, stopped detesting her, because her character finally evolved from an irritating cliche into a believable person...but Rani's Mum is so Chrissie-like that the same purpose is being served, don'cha think?

Love the cartoon. You would have been fascinated to be at Skeptics with us last Monday; the guest speaker was a bright, articulate and rather hot thirtyish lady called Kylie who teaches evolution in one of the most insanely fundie and backward RC schools in Melbourne and gets away with it! All the crusty old-school socks-and-sandals Skeppies were trying to bait her during question time (i.e. suggesting that she's letting the side down by not just trampling all over her charges' ~spits~ "faith"); I OTOH raised my hand and then thanked her for having the patience and bravery to gradually let a little light into young minds that had been brought up so closed and empty - which got a thunderous round of applause for her, as I'd intended it to - and then followed it up with saying 'Remember, sometimes it's better to light a candle than to carpet-bomb the Vatican' - which got a thunderous round of laughs. Apart from more capybaras, the world also needs more awesome schoolteachers :D

I've been missing Russia a lot lately, too. So I started reading a lot of Russian poetry and looking at my old pictures and...it just made the longing worse. :( Russia can just capture your soul, can't it?

That is sooooooooo cool that you were able to give Elisabeth Sladen a letter from the kids at Kitezh. I'm sure that lots of fans give her stuff, but not many fans give her letters from Russian orphans!

I wonder whether you could somehow convince Elisabeth Sladen to use her celebrity to do a sort of fundraiser for the orphanage? No idea how one would go about that...maybe you'd have to contact her agent??? Or perhaps such a thing could never happen. But I think it would be cool if it did happen.

Hang in there and feel better soon. Try to get some rest. For the first few years after I graduated from the university I had to work two jobs (and sometimes three jobs), so I understand what you're going through. This too shall pass. In the meantime, take good care of yourself.

Russia's just that kind of place... think you'll ever go back?

Wow, wouldn't that be amazing? She's a very busy lady, though... Although it looks like she might be arranging to have some cool stuff sent to the kids, which is lovely!

Have a nice weekend!
