So,
sashavangenius and I went to Stratford!
It was fab! I got the train yesterday morning, and saw Sian from my year at school, on her way back to uni, and we chatted all the way to Birmingham, which was nice! Then I met up with
sashavangenius and we headed on to Stratford. It's a lovely place! Pretty streets and houses, and everything is named after Shakespeare-y stuff...
Our hotel was the Legacy Falcon Hotel, and jolly nice it was too! Bit of a maze, though. I got lost every time we left the room...
We dressed in our Elizabethan costumes to go and see the play - which was Merry Wives of Windsor: The Musical - and as usual we got several strange looks and a few nice compliments.
The show was fabulous! It starred, among others, Judi Dench (!!!!!), Jeffery Dench (!!), Haydn Gwynne (!!!), Simon Callow (!!!) and Alistair McGowan (!!!)!! The whole cast was wonderful, actually. The songs were fantastic - I bought the soundtrack album. Dame Judi was fabulous as Mistress Quickly, absolutely perfect! Also, who knew Alistair McGowan was such a fantastic singer?
Afterwards we went to the Stage Door, and met quite a few of the cast, who were all lovely to us! Jeffery Dench and Alistair McGowan were particularly friendly and admired our costumes. Judi was ages coming out because she had guests, but she talked to us and was lovely and signed our programmes and everything and it was SO EXCITING!!
This morning we went to Shakespeare's birthplace, which was lovely, really interesting. There's a window there autographed by loads of famous people, like Keats and Dickens! Then in the giftshop I bought Macbeth finger puppets!
sashavangenius and I both needed to change trains at Birmingham, so we stopped there a while to do a bit of shopping, but for once (possibly because I'm not well and I couldn't muster my usual enthusiasm) I was quite restrained and only bought a few fairly cheap DVDs...
And now I'm back. And only a couple of weeks until the next show!
