Fun day!
I went to Lincoln, and it was lovely! The town itself is very pretty generally. I walked up the steep hill (called Steep Hill, lol) and it was very nice, tearooms and dinky little souvenir shops all the way up.
The cathedral was interesting, I went for the guided tour and learned all sorts of fascinating things about it. They were having a Da Vinci Code exhibition, because the bits of the film that were supposed to be Westminster Abbey were actually Lincoln Cathedral, but I didn't go to that bit. Very pretty stained glass windows, there were.
I went to the castle too after lunch, and got to see the Magna Carta! Well, one of the originals anyway, apparently there are four left in existence. That bit was interesting, but then I went to the prison, which was in the castle. Wasn't so keen on that bit. There was a very oppressive atmosphere in the place, and when I got into the prison chapel I got all creeped out - they used to put hoods on the prisoners so that they couldn't communicate during the service (because of the separate system, thank you History GCSE...) and you could go up and stand in the pulpit and look down on all these models of prisoners all wearing hoods, and it was quite upsetting really...
Anyway, I got out of there pretty sharpish and the rest of the castle was lovely! After that I wandered back down the hill, stopping for a bit in a little museum where they were having an exhibition about games through history. The rest was a bit boring really, seemed to be mostly bits of clay that might have been something or other but they weren't quite sure... but there was a bit where you could put headphones on and listen to different languages, like Latin and Saxon and Norman French. So I had a go on that for a bit.
And then it was back to the station, but I was quite early, so I went around the corner to HMV... and I was doing so well up to then...
But never mind, I only got two DVDs, and I know I'll thoroughly enjoy them. And, well, that was my day in Lincoln. I suppose I should get cracking on something productive now...
Edit: Apparently the prison is well known for being haunted, particularly the chapel... Gosh...
