Happy Birthday, Llin! That sounds pretty close to the sort of summing up I did mentally when I turned 25. There's something about that age. It's kind of when you are truly an adult and not just a kid fresh out of their teen years. You assess yourself. I too thought I'd be married with kids by 25. I'm nowhere near that yet (it will help when I meet a guy I have a crush on who's not taken or gay, as has been the case lately), but that's okay. I'm not rushing it. I'm busy enough as is. :)
My younger self was more optimistic about things too, and I'm trying to tap into that again. I've been getting a bit cynical lately and could use the sort of leaps of faith I was up for when I was a teenager. Coupled with the practicality of my mid-twenties, of course.
I figured by the time I was 25, I'd be a biologist studying wolves in Montana or big cats in Africa. Now, I know I couldn't get into those jobs easily, nor am I sure I'd want to anymore. I like field work in doses, but I enjoy my urban life too with access to theatres, museums, and conventions. :) We change as we grow. It doesn't have to mean we're giving up on old dreams, just embracing new ones. I found a passion for teaching I never thought I'd have. It feels like the right path, so I'm seeing where it leads.
I'm glad to hear (aside from the sucky parts), you're having a good life. I'm glad it sounds like you and Cara are doing well. And I hope life only continues to get better for you and the worst is behind.
((((((((Llin))))))))!!!!! Have a wonderful time being 25! Sounds like you had a great party to kick it off!
