Ha! But most of my mishaps involve coffee. Sheer statistical probability. The one thing I have in common with Kathryn Janeway is the desire to have a mug surgically grafted onto my palm. (Oh, and a crush on B'Elanna Torres, but that's another matter.)
A very much younger version of myself got a little too involved in the X-Files fandom wars between 'Shippers' and 'NoRomos' – at fourteen, with really hopelessly ignorant ideas about what constituted attraction and romance, I couldn't begin to conceive of how a man and a woman could be partners in anything but a romantic sense. Shows what I knew.
And oh, Nana. One of the many ways in which fandom has permanently altered my brain: I cannot hear that song in any version without visions of Lola Chrystal very pleasantly burning my eyeballs. (Witness: the dance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nw9RW2fjrCU) to Beyoncé's [rather nice, actually] rendition on a recent So You Think You Can Dance, which I instinctively found more, ah, exciting than I otherwise would have. ... It doesn't help that the set looks like it was designed by a gay Cardassian from the 1970's.)
