Is there something terribly, terribly wrong with me?
Does everyone else know something I don't?
Am I just reading all the wrong books?
Because modern literature pretty much seems to suck. I haven't been able to really enjoy any of the recently published books I've read lately.
I read On Beauty by Zadie Smith and found it a bit interesting, but I couldn't understand all the hype.
And I read Jonathan Strange and Mister Norrell, by Susanna Clarke. That was a fantasy one, and people have been raving about it for quite a while. It was ok. Nothing special.
At the moment I'm reading The Line of Beauty, by Alan Hollinghurst. Esme said she didn't like it because there was too much gay sex, so I thought I'd give it a go. :P My reaction so far? ... Meh. I don't know what it is about these books that makes them so unappealing to me. I know it can't just be me being in a non-reading mood, because I read Lord of the Flies the other day and loved it.
Thank goodness for Terry Pratchett, is all I can say.
