Experimenting...

This afternoon I got fed up of just sitting around doing nothing with myself and decided to do some writing. I wanted to do a bit of work on the play I had the idea for the other week, but I'd barely got further than a basic concept, and I was in that sort of mood that, if I started planning, I'd get bogged down in it and not get anything proper done.
So I threw caution to the wind and just sat and wrote whatever came into my head, and now I have a first scene! I'm not sure that it's usable, but it reads rather well, I think, and it demonstrates the personalities of the characters quite well. It's funny, I'd chosen the names and roles of the two main characters and I had an idea of their personalities, but as soon as I started writing their personalities switched over... a couple of other characters morphed too... I guess that's what I get for writing with no preparation, but then I had some good ideas that I might not have otherwise had.
So even if I don't use this scene in the finished play, I'm pleased with the afternoon's work, because the voices of the characters are properly rooted in my head now, and it's all good...
But now I'm not sure where to go next, so I think I need some proper planning before I write any more...
