Aug. 19th, 2004 10:09 pmOoooohhh, I am annoyed now. Just wrote several paragraphs of entry when the computer decided to spontaneously shut itself off, losing it all. Grr. Which is why I'm typing this in Word, so I can paste it into Live Journal when I'm good and ready, since it's going to be a fairly long entry and I don't want it disappearing again!
Anyhoo, about my eventful A-Level results day:
It began last night, when I was already quite nervous. Then I went to the pub quiz and drank a load of coke, which got me all caffeined up. Read some X-Files scripts before going to bed, and was subsequently freaked out by the huge spider in my room, and had to evict it to the laundry room and then hide under the covers. So what with one thing and another I didn't get to sleep until three in the morning.
Woke up at seven, on the bus by half eight, at school just before nine to get my results. B in German, A in English, A in History. Was secretly hoping for straight As, but still very pleased since this means I am definitely going to Nottingham, and my German was only ten marks off an A anyway. Most everyone did very well and we're all going to good universities, happily.
We finally got a chance to give our German teacher her goodbye present - a picture of her and us (our class of four girls) at the Sixth Form Ball. I'm really going to miss her, and German lessons in general. Even though I'll be doing it to degree level, our German classes had such a fun atmosphere that it won't be the same, although I'm sure I'll enjoy it.
Had to hang around until nearly eleven to have my picture taken for the paper, then a quick walk around town and to the pub in time for when it opened at twelve. Discovered they had a new snack - lattice fries, yummy with mayonnaise - and had a huge bowl since due to nerves I only had a cream cracker for breakfast. Lots of fun chatting with everyone about what we're going to do - so pleased that Hannah will be in Nottingham with me after her Gap, and Gem will be ten junctions down the M1 in Northampton, so we could get together at weekends without too much bother.
When we got bored of sitting in the pub, some of us decided to go for a drive. Since there were two cars going, and the inhabitants of Dan's car (myself included) were feeling a bit mischievous, it turned into car hide-and-seek, which we won by miles. The left-side back seatbelt wasn't working, so Hannah and I took turns sitting in what was dubbed 'The Death Seat'. Gem was in the front passenger seat, and Han kept going 'Gemma knew her killer', like that advert that warns you to wear your seatbelt, or else you could crush the person in front.
After that, we ended up in another pub, so that the boys could play pool, and Gem and I failed miserably on the quiz machine. We were all getting pretty hungry again by that point, so we made our way to Pizza Hut, where we were waiting for a table for nearly an hour. I guess that is what you get when you ask for a table for fourteen! Only three of us wanted starters, and since the Pizza Hut people seemingly aren't able to wrap their brains around the idea that a bunch of people who have been waiting an hour to get food (in the rain, I might add) might want the main courses served at the same time as the starters, most of us sat there hungry as Jess, Patrick and Sarah tucked into their starters. By this point my ears were really hurting - this happens when I am very hungry, not sure why. By the time the main courses arrived we were about ready to resort to cannibalism and draw lots to see which one of the group we would eat first!
In spite of the wait it was a very nice meal, lots of fun, and all in all a total blast of a day.
